BAKER BOOKS LAUNCHES EMERGENT PARTNERSHIP AND BLOGS

New blogs launch March 1

Grand Rapids, MI, March 2007 – Want to connect with a new kind of leader and missional Christian? Meet them where they are—online. That’s the direction Baker Books is headed with the creation of a new blog site www.emersionbooks.com that launches March 1. The site marks a first among Christian publishers, who up until now only used blogs for purposes unrelated to marketing the content of their books.

The blogs introduce Baker’s partnership with Emergent Village called ēmersion: Emergent Village Resources for Communities of Faith. Against the backdrop of the church today in a rapidly changing culture, the ēmersion line of books is intended for those who are meeting these changes with vision and hope for the future. These resources will encourage pastors and lay leaders as they nurture their communities to live into God’s kingdom here and now.

While plenty of authors have blogs, few Christian publishers have undertaken the medium as a way of furthering dialog about their books and the ideas they contain. However, a blog presence for this publishing partnership seemed like the next natural step to Bobbi Jo Heyboer, Senior Marketing Director for Baker Books.

“Our goal in creating the blogs connected with these books was to engage the audience in conversations relevant to Emergent Village in a way that complements how they live their lives and communicate with one another,” said Heyboer. “This audience is more than ever attuned to technology and uses it for nurturing communities of faith. The blogs provide places for conversation and relevant resources for their church life.”

An Emergent Manifesto of Hope, the premier book for ēmersion and edited by Doug Pagitt and Tony Jones, represents a coming together of over 20 divergent voices into a conversation about the main issues being considered within the emerging church. This unprecedented collection includes writings by some of the most important voices in the emergent conversation, including Brian McLaren, Dan Kimball and Sally Morgenthaler, all of whom are contributing posts to the blog. Says Tony Jones, “An Emergent Manifesto will be the calling card for those of us in the Emergent Village friendship, for it articulates the various passions we each bring to the conversation.”

Forthcoming titles in the ēmersion line include: Organic Community by Joe Myers, Signs of Emergence by Kester Brewin, and Justice in the Burbs by Will and Lisa Samson.
